Queen Creek police are warning residents about a new scam, this one focusing on text messages.
“The text messages claim to be from local law enforcement, state agencies or banks to trick you into clicking on a malicious link and sharing personal information,” according to a statement from the Queen Creek Police Department.
QCPD has these reminders:
Never share personal or financial information via text
Do not click on suspicious links
Local, state and federal agencies will never ask for payment or personal information by text
“If you receive a text that seems suspicious, verify by contacting the agency directly using a phone number or website you know is official. Not the contact information provided in the message,” the statement continued.
Residents who have experienced or witnessed suspicious activity are asked to call QCPD’s non-emergency line at 480-358-3500 or call 911 in an emergency.
