High school graduation ceremonies may be wrapping up, but it’s still graduation weekend and the Queen Creek Police Department is working to keep teens safe.
“QCPD will continue to deploy extra officers this weekend. They will be on patrol in neighborhoods, on the roads and in common areas where teens are known to congregate,” stated QCPD Chief Randy Brice in a press release. “We encourage our residents to call us if they have concerns or observe suspicious behavior. QCPD is committed to ensuring the safety of this community.”
QCPD has these safety tips:
Wear seat belts at all times, both drivers and passengers.
Expect increased traffic around graduation venues.
Avoid distractions in the car and slow down. Distracted driving and speed are two of the most common factors in traffic collisions in Queen Creek.
Always be aware of your surroundings.
Designate a responsible driver. Make responsible choices and avoid substances that impair judgment or decision-making.
QCPD will enforce all laws related to alcohol, illegal drugs, and impaired driving.
Those hosting parties are asked to monitor activities and ensure everyone has a safe way to get home.
The public should call the police department’s non-emergency number at 480-358-3500 if there is illegal activity, excessive noise, overcrowding or traffic issues during a party. For emergencies, call 911.
As usual, the town’s curfew for juveniles in place. For those 15 and under, the curfew runs from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and for 16- and 17-year-olds it runs from midnight to 5 a.m.
“Graduation is a time for celebration, and we want to ensure everyone celebrates safely and responsibly,” Brice stated.
