Queen Creek police: school threats become social media trend

The Queen Creek Police Department is warning about a nationwide trend on social media involving threats to schools.

“These threats are typically posted on platforms like Snapchat, TikTok and others,” a QCPD Facebook post stated. “The posts are often vague about the targeted school and may include lists of schools that could be targeted.”

QCPD stated that it is taking the matter seriously and is closely working with schools to investigate all reported threats.

“At this point, we have found no credible threats,” QCPD stated.

Police are asking the public not to repost the threats and to instead call QCPD at 480-358-3500, or 911 in an emergency.

“Reposting these threats spreads and creates unnecessary fear for students, parents and staff. It also complicates the investigative process and drains valuable police resources,” the QCPD post continued.

QCPD also warned that people may be committing a crime if they repost the threats and if they add “comments or images that are meant to threaten, intimidate, disrupt, interfere, bully or harass.”
