As the little ghosts and ghouls prepare for a night of Halloween revelry, the Queen Creek Police Department is also asking parents to get ready.
QCPD is offering safety tips for costumes, trick-or-treating, driving and hosting parties.
Costumes:
Do not obstruct children's vision
Avoid long or baggy costumes
Choose costumes that are bright or add reflective tape
Halloween night:
A parent or adult should accompany young children
Travel in groups
Never enter a stranger's home
Slow down, watch for kids at intersections and on curbs
Driving:
Wear a seat belt at all times
Avoid distractions in the car and slow down
Designate a sober driver
Hosting a party:
Monitor party activities
Ensure everyone has a safe way to get home
Do not facilitate or contribute to parties with illegal activity, including underage drinking, excessive noise or other violations consistent with unruly gatherings
In the lead-up to Halloween, QCPD is stepping up patrols.
“Over the next week, QCPD will continue to deploy extra patrols in common areas where teens are known to congregate and enforce laws related to curfew, underage drinking and other disruptive behavior,” according to a post on QCPD’s Facebook page.
The town has a curfew for juveniles who are not accompanied by their parents or guardians. For those ages 15 and under, the curfew runs from 10 a.m. to 5 a.m. The curfew for those ages 16 and 17 is midnight to 5 a.m.
