Queen Creek offers free Christmas tree recycling

Posted

Whether you take it down the day after Christmas or a few days after New Year’s, the town of Queen Creek is ready to help you recycle that Christmas tree.

The town is offering a free, self-serve Christmas tree drop-off from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., through Jan. 9 at the QC Recycle Center, 22179 E. Ryan Road. Access to the center is available north of Frontier Family Park on Ryan Road, west of Signal Butte Road.

All lights, decorations and ornaments must be removed before drop-off, and only live Christmas trees will be accepted.

Collected trees are chipped and used as roadside cover at Waste Connections’ landfill for dust control, the release stated.

If you can’t drop-off your tree, town trash and recycling customers can also schedule a bulk pick-up for it at no additional cost by visiting QueenCreekAZ.gov/BulkTrash. When scheduling a bulk pickup online, residents should select “Other Items” and then “Christmas Tree,” the release stated.

Christmas trees do not have to be bagged, bundled, and tied like other yard debris. The trees must be cut down to four-foot lengths for the safety of bulk pickup drivers because long logs pose a significant risk of entanglement in the truck's mechanisms, potentially resulting in projectiles that could cause serious injury to the driver or nearby individuals, according to the town.
