Queen Creek has new vice mayor

The Queen Creek Town Council has a new vice mayor for the new year.

On Wednesday, council voted unanimously to appoint Jeff Brown to serve as vice mayor with a term ending January 2023. He replaces Dawn Oliphant who served in the role for a year.

The vice mayor’s duties include:

  • In the mayor’s absence, the vice mayor shall serve as the presiding officer of the town council meeting and/or at various ceremonial occasions in the community;
  • In the mayor’s absence, sign official documents relating to local government;
  • Assist the town council in setting goals and advocating policy decisions;
  • Serve as the direct point of contact between the Queen Creek Town Council and elected officials of the community's school districts (officially known as school liaison);
  • Serve as a promoter of the Queen Creek community;
  • Respond to and interacts using a variety forms of community with residents, neighborhoods, neighborhood associations, and the business community;
  • Along with the town council, appoint town manager to act as administrative head of the various Town departments and the employees;
  • Participate in all activities listed for council members and is a voting member of the town council.

According to his biograph on the town’s website, Brown was first elected to the council in 2008, and was re-elected in 2012, 2016, and 2020.

He serves as chair of the Town Council Budget Committee, and represents the town on the East Valley Partnership board of directors, the League of Arizona Cities and Towns General Administration, Human Resources and Elections Committee, the League Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee, the League Transportation, Infrastructure, and Public Works Committee, the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority board of directors, and the Town's Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.

He served as the vice mayor from January 2017 to January 2018. Before seeking elected office, Brown served on the Planning and Zoning Commission from 2006 to 2008. He also served as chair of the Transportation Advisory Committee, on the Design Guideline Steering Committee and as a member of the Finance Review Task Force.

Brown and his family have lived in Queen Creek since 2002. He is self-employed, focusing on professional consulting services and real estate investments as the owner of JBQC Investments LLC and 50% owner of Kneadmor Cowbell LLC.
