Queen Creek High football coach is Cardinals pick

Posted

For the second time this season, Queen Creek High School Head Football Coach Travis Schureman has been selected the Boys High School Coach of the Week by the Arizona Cardinals.

Schureman was first honored in September with his second win coming in October. His latest win scores another $2,000 for the Bulldogs football program.

The Bulldogs are 9-2 overall this season and 3-1 in 6A Conference play. The team takes on Pinnacle High School at home on Friday as it advances to the conference’s state championship quarter finals.

Schureman said in a Queen Creek Unified School District Facebook video post that he was pleased about how well his players are working together this year.

“One of the things that I have really enjoyed this year is how well the kids get (along) together, how well they get along and how much they just love being with each,” he said. “When you get kids that want to compete together and enjoy doing it together it’s scary how good you can be.”

QCUSD Superintendent Perry Berry said in the video that in his 14 years in Queen Creek, “I’ve watched a lot of great football teams (and) this is one of the top ones that I’ve seen.”

“You guys are killing,” Berry said. “It doesn’t happen without good leadership and (I’m) just pulling for you Trav, you deserve this more than any coach that I can think of.”
