Queen Creek cooling center ready for 120 degree forecast

Posted

The National Weather Service’s extreme heat warning continues through the weekend with temperatures in the Valley possibly hitting 120 degrees.

Starting Thursday, the National Weather Service says high temperatures through Sunday could range from 115 degrees to 120 degrees.

This extreme heat can be life-threatening, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides the following tips for preventing heat-related illness:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Avoid liquids that cause you to lose more body fluids such as alcohol and sugary drinks
  • Stay indoors, if at all possible
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing
  • Limit outdoor activity to morning and evening hours
  • If outdoors, rest often in a shady area and wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen

Queen Creek operates one cooling center in the town from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, at the Queen Creek Library, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road.

The library provides access to water, computers and free WiFi. It will be closed on Labor Day. Information: 480-797-4854.
