Portion of Pima Road in Queen Creek may be renamed

A portion of Pima Road between Meridian Road and Ironwood Drive could soon be renamed Queen Creek Road.

At its Wednesday meeting, the Queen Creek Town Council will be deciding on the name change as part of its public hearing consent agenda in which the public can comment on items on the agenda and all matters are considered in one motion and vote.

In March 2018, the town annexed the section, and the name of the street was not changed to match the Queen Creek Road name that is on the same alignment to the west of Meridian Road.

“The town council has recently expressed a desire to change the name for that section of Pima Road to Queen Creek Road, as it is a significant roadway in the town and a source of identity for the town as it bears the town’s name,” according to a council staff report.

Under Queen Creek’s town naming policy, the council can change street names by approving a resolution. All residents who might be affected by the change were notified in advance and in writing about the public hearing on Wednesday.

Once the name change has been approved, the resolution will be recorded with the Maricopa or Pinal County Recorder’s office.

There are two residential buildings with addresses on Pima Road that will need to be changed to Queen Creek Road, and the town has sent registered letters of notification to the property owner, the utility account owner and to each of the addresses in case there are tenants living in the buildings, the report continued.

The town also has been in communication with Pinal County Manager Leo Lew’s office about change.

Changing the road name will require the town to replace three metal signs and four illuminated signs at an estimated total cost of $9,300, the report stated.
