New Queen Creek Target requests liquor license for ‘sampling’

Posted

The new Target set to open next month at Vineyard Towne Center wants to offer wine and beer samples to shoppers.

The new store will open on Sunday, Oct. 12 in the Vestar-developed shopping center at 37854 N. Gantzel Road.

The Queen Creek Town Council will be voting on whether to recommend a Sampling Privilege application to the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control for the store when it meets on Wednesday.

On May 21, the council unanimously approved recommending a Series 10 beer and wine store liquor license, which allows a “retail store to sell beer and wine (no other spirituous liquors), only in the original unbroken package, to be taken away from the premises of the retailer and consumed off the premises,” according to a staff report.

With a Sampling Privilege approval from the state, the Target will be allowed to offer limited on-premises samples of alcoholic products to customers.

“The application for sampling privileges may be filed for an existing license or may be submitted with an initial license application. The request for sampling approval, the review of the application and the issuance of approval shall be conducted under the same procedures for the issuance of a spirituous liquor license” as prescribed under state statute, the staff report continued.

A public notice for the sampling application was posted at the store location for the required 20-day period, and no comments or protests from the public have been received so far.

A report from the Queen Creek Police Department is pending.

The sampling recommendation is part of the council’s public consent agenda in which all items are decided on in one motion and vote following a public hearing.

The town council meets at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Community Chambers, 20727 E. Civic Parkway.
