Banner Health, in partnership with Champion Schools Chandler, hosted the interactive injury-prevention program “Safety Town” for local elementary students on Oct. 19.
Champion Schools’ McQueen Road campus was transformed into a mini-city, according to a news release, complete with colorful pop-up buildings, sidewalks, crosswalks, and traffic signals designed to teach critical lifelong safety skills.
Kindergartners, sixth-graders and many other in-between grades engaged in the immersive, mobile, 5-hour experience designed to reduce severe accidental injuries and promote healthy lifestyles, the release states.
Students walked through hands-on safety simulations led by healthcare and emergency safety experts.
The curriculum addressed vital real-world topics, including water and sun safety, bicycle and pedestrian habits, fire-escape planning, poison prevention, and car seat and seatbelt safety.
Since it was launched in 2017, the release states, the Banner Health Safety Town mobile program has been presented to more than 25,000 children across Arizona.
