The Chandler Center for the Arts has announced a free show meant to help acknowledge both Jazz Appreciation Month and the nation's 250th birthday with a free show.
The 3 p.m., Sunday, April 19 show by Quarteto Nuevo will be held in the Hal Bogle Theater at the Center for the Arts, located on the northwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard.
There is no charge, though attendees must make a reservation at this link.
Quarteto Nuevo will be performing their "Jazz Road Suite: Western States" show, exploring the connection of jazz to geographical and cultural locations, including compositions for Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming, according to a news release.
The quartet merges classical music with folk, Latin, and jazz with razor-sharp precision enhanced by jazzy interludes.
Their instrumentation — soprano saxophone/alto flute (Damon Zick), cello (Jacob Szekely), guitar (Kenton Youngstrom) and hand percussion (Felipe Fraga) — colors their wide-ranging repertoire.
Seats are limited at a first-come, first-served basis. An RSVP does not guarantee a seat during the event in the 346-seat Bogle Theater.
