The lessons learned in Queen Creek Unified School District’s career and technical education programs can extend beyond graduation.
For Crismon High School graduates Isabella M. and Kamea M., DECA played a pivotal role in shaping their futures, according to a district press release.
While at Crismon High School, both students immersed themselves in DECA’s competitions, leadership opportunities and networking experiences, allowing them to apply classroom learning in real business scenarios.
For Isabella, DECA reaffirmed her career aspirations.
“DECA has helped me realize that this is exactly what I want to do,” she stated in the release. “It has made me more excited and better prepared for everything I want to achieve. It has given me the skills I need to succeed and helped me get where I want to be.”
Throughout her time in the program, Isabella strengthened her public speaking, communication and problem-solving skills while working toward her goal of one day owning her own business.
Kamea said DECA expanded her vision of what was possible after high school.
“DECA has shown me how many opportunities are out there and made me want to explore everything the world has to offer,” Kamea stated in the release.
Reflecting on her experience, she encourages current and future students to take advantage of every opportunity available.
“I’ve learned to always say yes to opportunities,” Kamea stated. “The more you’re willing to try, the more you’ll learn.”
