Organizations seeking a combined total of more than $131,000 gave presentations at the Apache Junction Health and Human Services Commission’s March 27 meeting. Funds requested are:
• AJ Community Development Corp., 300 E. Superstition Blvd. in Apache Junction, is seeking $6,400 to assist with administrative costs, community revitalization projects, household hazardous waste transport assistance, the annual make a difference day, focal point brick memorial and residential address identifiers.
• Boys and Girls Club of the Valley requested $35,000 to assist with salaries for employees; employee-related expenses; and to conduct youth educational programming such as Project Learn, Power Hour, Be Great Graduate, Career Launch, Diplomas to Degrees, Money Matters and summer programming. The funds will be used at the Superstition Mountain Branch, 2805 S. Ironwood Drive in Apache Junction.
• Genesis Project, 564 N. Idaho Road in Apache Junction, requested $22,800 to assist with its Community Resource Center to provide food, clothing, shoes, hygiene products and heat relief to residents.
• Horizon Health & Wellness, 625 N. Plaza Drive in Apache Junction, is seeking $7,060 to assist with lighting at its Earth Heart Park.
• Otherside Ministries, which lists a Mesa P.O. box in ZIP code 85208 for its address but has an office in Apache Junction at Genesis Project, requested $19,230 — amended at the meeting to $10,000 — to assist with navigator/outreach specialist salary, supplies, office supplies, food expenses, meals, supplies, uniforms, and tools and equipment.
• Superstition Food Bank, 575 N. Idaho Road No. 701 in Apache Junction, is seeking $50,000 for food.
