An $840,000 bulk-fuel agreement is being sought between the city of Apache Junction and Senergy Petroleum LLC for a term of July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
The fuel also will be used by the water and sewer districts and the Superstition Fire and Medical District, with those entities reimbursing the city.
The Apache Junction City Council is to vote on the agreement using a state cooperative contract during a meeting that begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in the council chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.
The city last year entered into an agreement with the same business for $840,000 in bulk fuel for July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025, Public Works Director Ted Wolff said at a June 2 council work session.
Mayor Chip Wilson asked if the same dollar value was needed this year and Wolff said yes it was the same amount.
Vice Mayor Robert Schroeder asked how much the city used last year.
“I think we were closer to about $780,000 is my recollection, but I am not certain. That was for all city vehicles,” Wolff said.
Any general fund money in the budget not used is rolled into the city’s savings account, Assistant City Manager Matt Busby said.
“It is not a hard price that we paid,” Councilmember Darryl Cross said.
“We don‘t pay upfront; we only pay what we utilize,” Busby said.
City Attorney Joel Stern said the fuel is also used by the water, sewer and fire districts.
“They do reimburse,” he said.
