What’s happening at Phoenix Art Museum in September

New Korean art exhibition, Meat Puppets performance and closing shows highlight the month

Phoenix Art Museum’s September calendar includes the Arizona debut of a major South Korean artist, live music from Phoenix-born rock band Meat Puppets, family activities, and final opportunities to see two exhibitions.

Opening Wednesday, Sept. 9, “Kim Chong Hak, Painter of Seoraksan” brings more than 80 paintings, drawings and sketches by South Korean artist Kim Chong Hak to Arizona for the first time. The exhibition traces Kim’s career from his early abstract work to the colorful, expressive style he developed after settling near Mount Seorak in eastern South Korea during the late 1970s.

Families can visit the museum Sunday, Sept. 13 for Kids Day, which this month celebrates the 60th anniversary of the museum’s fashion collection. Activities from noon to 5 p.m. include art-making, a fashion photo booth, and storytime, along with a 2 p.m. performance by The Phoenix Symphony.
