OPINION — I’ve been a Christian Conservative Republican my entire adult life (I’m 77 years old).
I worked hard to get Donald Trump elected in 2016 and 2024. I’ve worked hard for decades to elect Conservative Republicans.
Trump and his administration bear the overwhelming responsibility for the Republicans’ disastrous midterm-election results. Considering his 2024 campaign promises, he had tremendous opportunities during his second term to truly Make America Great Again and strengthen the Republican Party for generations to come.
Instead, Trump’s narcissism, self-indulgence and obsession with personal glory have squandered those opportunities and may have permanently damaged the Republican Party.
Nobody cares about Trump’s obsession with having his name on everything, his ballroom, his arch and his personal monuments. Americans are concerned about the future of our country, not Trump’s legacy or his ego.
He reminds me of Nero playing his lyre while Rome burned to the ground.
The best thing Donald Trump can do for America, the Republican Party and even himself is resign.
Trump’s continued presence in the White House gives Democrats a perpetual punching bag and makes it increasingly difficult for Republicans to move forward.
Vice President JD Vance deserves the opportunity to lead, implement the conservative agenda and establish himself as the Republican Party’s 2028 presidential candidate.
Donald Trump had his opportunity. It’s time he put America and the Republican Party ahead of himself.
