Plant a flower, save a butterfly: Phoenix promotes Monarch Month

A recent study shows western monarch butterflies have a greater than 95% of becoming extinct by 2080. The city of Phoenix is working to help protect the pollinators.

Monarch butterflies migrate up to 3,000 miles as they go from their summer homes in Canada or the northern U.S. to their winter homes in central Mexico. Phoenix aims be a hospitable way station along that route.

Phoenix city officials gathered Monday for a Monarch Month event to plant pollinator-friendly flowers at Burton Barr Central Library and City Hall and more importantly to spread the news about planting such flowers around the city.
