Phoenix Police Department to close, decommission former headquarters

The Phoenix Police Department will hold a ceremony to decommission and officially close its former headquarters at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 6 at 620 West Washington Street, Phoenix Police said Tuesday in a release.

According to the release, the building served as the Phoenix Police Department’s headquarters for more than five decades after originally opening in 1975.

Over the course of 50 years, it was home to 12 police chiefs, including acting and interim leaders, and supported key police operations that shaped public safety in Phoenix.
