Phoenix police arrest 65-year-old suspect in 26-year-old cold case murder

A 65-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder and other crimes in connection with a case that dates back 26 years, police said. 

On April 1, 2000, the suspect entered the Phoenix home of his former girlfriend, Maria Cruz-Galvan, and fatally stabbed her while also critically injuring a man who was in the home, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

The suspect fled the scene and remained a fugitive, police said, adding Abraham Rafael Pedroza‑Garcia was identified in a photo lineup by the surviving man, and an arrest warrant for first‑degree murder, aggravated assault and first‑degree burglary was issued on Sept. 13, 2000.
