A new exhibition in downtown Phoenix displays the classical approach of George Strasburger’s large-scale oil paintings.

The Tucson-based artist uses a combination of loose and tight brushwork, and Strasburger’s characters often perform tasks or engage in activities that depict an essential act or need.

“The people portrayed have been characterized as being on the ‘fringe’ of society. In my neighborhood, they are society,” Strasburger shared in a press release.

The exhibition, titled “The Human Condition,” focuses on the common and the good and will be on display from Monday, Feb. 26 through Thursday, March 28 at the Olney Gallery, inside Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, at 100 W. Roosevelt St., in Phoenix.

Strasburger was raised in a working-class neighborhood in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and his first artistic influences were the murals in the Catholic Church he attended as a child. He is an award-winning artist with solo exhibits throughout the Southwest.

Among the works on display from Feb. 26 through March 28 in Phoenix is “Giving Aid To The Wounded Man.”
