Phoenix artist Bob Allen will open his new solo exhibition, “Romeo, Whiskey, Charlie & more,” during First Friday, on Sept. 4, at Five15Arts @ Chartreuse, 1301 NW Grand Ave. The opening reception runs from 6 to 9 p.m., with Allen returning for an artist talk at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18.
The exhibition features more than 20 original mixed-media works, including the debut of Allen’s nine-part Piecework Series, which explores ideas of subdivision and proximity.
Working primarily on stretched canvas and birch panels, Allen combines text, patterns, and found and original imagery to explore personal memories along with political, abstract and everyday observations. His art career has taken him through Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco before Phoenix, where the longtime Five15Arts member has been part of the local arts community for decades.
