Glendale reader: State House, Senate candidates will listen, make informed decisions

OPINION — “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!” Or is it “Knowledge is power?” It’s a bit of both. I felt uneasy telling people what I did for a living. At parties, “What do you do?” Me: “I am a public high school English teacher.” Reaction: “Oh … I hated English.” “Really?”

We use English daily, yet those who teach it are sometimes seen as “judgy.” Some scoff at academic knowledge. Some try to be a “good ol’ boy” to appeal to voters. As for me, I don’t fear knowledgeable, intelligent people; I rely on them.

That’s how it is during election season. I read the voter guide and focus on candidates within my district. Do they have academic knowledge, practical experience and a strong work ethic? Can I count on them to do necessary research to cast sound votes in the state Legislature?
