Grand Canyon University will bring together hundreds of local high school students Sept. 11 for its inaugural Canyon Civic Conference, an event focused on civic responsibility, leadership and civil discourse.
The conference, hosted by students in GCU’s Ingram Honors College, will explore the nation’s founding principles and what they mean for the next generation of leaders. It coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Dr. Arthur C. Brooks, a professor and bestselling author whose work examines human happiness and constructive disagreement, will deliver the keynote address. Brooks is expected to discuss civic character, healthier communication and how people can disagree without becoming hostile.
