Fred DuVal has been selected the new chairman of the Arizona Board of Regents.

“I look forward to continuing to work on behalf of all Arizonans to improve educational attainment in our state, drive research that makes a difference in the lives of residents and ensure these outstanding universities thrive,” DuVal said in a release.

Appointed to the board by former Gov. Doug Ducey in 2018, this is DuVal’s second term on the board. He previously served from 2006-12.

DuVal was chosen to lead the board on April 21 at the regents’ meeting at the University of Arizona where the board also approved tuition increases for UA, Arizona State University and  Northern Arizona University.

Regent Cecilia Mata will serve as vice chair, and regent Robert Herbold was elected secretary of the board.

Lyndel Manson, who preceded DuVal as chair, will be treasurer of the board with student regent Katelyn Rees serving as assistant treasurer.

Officers will take their positions July 1, according to the release.
