Two seats will be up for grabs in the Arizona Corporation Commission, the government agency responsible for regulating utilities and businesses in the state.
The race will feature two incumbent Republican commissioners, Nick Myers and Kevin Thompson, seeking to keep their seats, first in the primary as they face challengers Dr. Ralph Heap and David Marshall Sr., and then in the general election as Democrats Jonathon Hill and Clara Pratte have no primary competition.
Unlike every other state where the governor appoints members to public utility commissions, the ACC is set up as an independent agency of government that has a host of responsibilities, from being the organization responsible for business to register with the state to approving requests for utility rate hikes.
