Peoria wants policy to give city manager purchasing power of state land

Peoria City Council will consider new policy language that will allow the city manager, or representative, to purchase state trust land at public auctions.

City officials say that Council granted purchase authority to the city manager through prior approval in the fiscal year 2026 Capital Improvement Program budget, and that  amended policy language will provide the city manager signing authority should the city be the successful bidder at a land auction.

While this new language only addresses Arizona State Land Department parcels, some residents said they believe it pulls power away from elected officials.
