Peoria's police and fire-medical departments recently accepted grants from the Arizona Department of Homeland Security.
The Peoria Police Department accepted grant funding in the amount of $56,443.
The Peoria Fire-Medical Department accepted grant funding in the amount of $57,950.
The funds will go to strengthening chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive weapon detection, response and decontamination capabilities; and sustaining and enhancing the Terrorism Liaison Officer program.
The departments have been working over the past several years to develop various emergency response programs.
The TLO program functions as a field intelligence unit supporting police tactical, hazardous material, explosive special operations and uncommon event types.
These grants are reimbursable with funding through September 2023.
