North Peoria residents balk at new Amkor plans

Upset over site selection, facility expansion

The announcement more than a year ago of Amkor Technology locating in north Peoria came with great excitement, securing the city as an important stop on the microchip supply chain.

Amkor says it has plans to invest $2 billion during two phases and bring at least 2,000 new local jobs into the city. In a big way, the location nailed one of the city’s top council goals of economic development and bringing high-level employment to the city.

But many residents in the north Peoria master-planned community of Vistancia, where the facility will be built, feel they weren’t properly informed about Amkor’s site selection and that the facility isn’t a good fit for the area.
