Multicultural and Black History Festival in Peoria extended into March

The organizers of the 26th Annual Multicultural and Black History Festival in Peoria have voted to continue celebrating Black history into March.

The Northwest Black History Committee and Vibrant Community present the free event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 9 at Centennial Plaza Park, 9875 N. 85th Ave., in Peoria.

This years theme is “Black History Is American History Every Month.”

Over the past 25 years the Multicultural and Black History Festival has featured artists like The Mighty Clouds of Joy, War, CeCe Peniston, Joe McBride, Ramsey Lewis, Stanley Jordan, Bobby Rush, Carl Carlton,Tierra, Little Joe y La Familia and others. The festival also includes art, dance, vendors, food, medical screening and awareness stations.

Smooth jazz saxophonist Neamen Lyles is one of two national acts featured this year. Also featured is vocalist Tuena Marie who has sang background for Nicki Minaj, Stevie Wonder and others.

A donation of $10 is requested at the event for local food and scholarship programs.
