Huntington University, 8385 W. Mariners Way, Peoria, is offering a special course this spring just for high school students interested in video production taught by the university’s director of broadcasting Sean Gates.
The class is two days a week 3-4:50 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday to avoid conflicts with high school, and is priced at special High School Early Entry tuition rate. The class begins Tuesday, Jan. 28.
The course, “DM196 Media Overview TV 1,” serves as an introduction to understanding and creating media. This course will explore various types of media including TV news, social media and documentary-style storytelling to look at how content is produced and what the intended message is for the consumer or viewer.
In this High School Early Entry course, students will learn basic shooting, editing, audio recording and writing techniques to develop their storytelling skills; work on individual projects to create video content with a variety of cameras and broadcast equipment; watch, read and research social media to better understand how and why it is an effective and necessary tool of communication; learn basic studio production skills by working in a control room, using broadcast studio cameras and the TriCaster 8000 switcher; and learn team-building skills while working on group projects.
