Council April 16 approved amendments to Peoria's city code that will affect where self-storage facilities will be located.

Self storage facilities have become prevalent throughout the city of Peoria.

There are 47 of these businesses in and around Peoria, and while the city says some sites are uniquely suited for self-storage facilities, when they consume the best-positioned sites, it reduces the opportunities for higher order economic expansion and balance.

Because of this, the city planning department has been looking at ensuring the best-positioned land remaining within Peoria is better safeguarded.
