Check your home’s energy efficiency

Posted

October is National Energy Awareness Month.

Unlike many colder climates in the United States, Arizona is just getting out of the season of peak electricity use and is heading into cooler days. Fall is a great time to check your home's energy efficiency.

• Check with your energy provider about energy audits. APS or SRP can collaborate with you and potentially identify savings with incentives.

• Running ceiling fans in the opposite direction can keep rooms warmer. Heat rises, and spinning fans clockwise allows them to redistribute warm air, pushing it down.

• If your home has a drafty window, using weather stripping or even insulating drapes can help lower the amount of air getting through, which can lower your utility cost.

• Let your home stay a few degrees cooler while you are sleeping or not home. This can reduce energy use by up to 10%.

• Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (120°F).
