American Legion national leadership will visit Peoria

American Legion leadership will meet with local Peoria leadership, June 6, at Rio Vista Park, 8866 W. Thunderbird Road.

James “Bill” Oxford, national commander of the American Legion, his aide Larry Cline,  American Legion Department of Arizona Commander Kenneth Queen, and American Legion National Executive Committee Member Judi Beischel will have an opportunity to meet with Mayor Cathy Carlat and Ironwood District Councilmember Bill Patena, chair of the veterans memorial board.

Touring the American Legion District 11, representing 20 American Legion Posts in the West Valley, they will discuss issues of importance to veterans and meet with Arizona West Valley veterans. While here they will be visiting historic Luke Greenway Post 1 in Phoenix, John J Morris Post 62 in Peoria, Kellis Draper Post 12 in Wickenburg, and Eugene C. Yount Post 145 in Peoria.

The commander will be provided the opportunity to tour the ATLAS system while at Post 12 in Wickenburg. The ATLAS system is the Veteran Administration’s new “Anywhere to Health” telehealth system that has recently been installed at Post 12.

The tour of the West Valley will culminate with Eugene C. Yount Post 145 sponsoring a barbeque at Rio Vista Park where the commander will have the opportunity to tour the Veteran’s Memorial Wall and Vietnam Veteran Memorial located in the park.
