SCOTTSDALE — The Saguaro Sabercats varsity football team announced it is cancelling this week’s game against Pinnacle originally scheduled for Friday.
News of the cancellation was first reported on X by Eric Sorenson Tuesday evening. Due to limitations because of roster size, the Sabercats have only played in two games this season so far.
After Friday’s blowout loss to Mountain Ridge, Saguaro Head Coach Butch Goncharoff said this is a new situation for him to try to navigate.

“It’s hard, I’ve never been a part of a team that forefits,” Goncharoff said. “But numbers are what they are, and guys are banged up. It’s just part of football.”
Goncharoff also had said they were still planning to finish the season, no matter what.
“That’s the plan,” Goncharoff said. “Nobody’s told me any different. We started out to play it, and that’s still the plan. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
