Phoenix Art Museum announces 2026-27 Lenhardt Lecture speakers

Jeffrey Gibson, Candice Hopkins and Kelly Akashi headline contemporary art series beginning Oct. 14

Phoenix Art Museum will welcome artist Jeffrey Gibson and curator Candice Hopkins this fall, followed by artist Kelly Akashi next spring, as part of its 2026-27 Lenhardt Lecture series.

Gibson will appear in conversation with Hopkins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, while Akashi will present the spring lecture Wednesday, April 14, 2027. Tickets are free for museum members and $5 for the public.

Gibson, a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and of Cherokee descent, is an interdisciplinary artist whose paintings, installations, videos and performances combine Indigenous and Western traditions with contemporary cultural references. He represented the United States at the 2024 Venice Biennale and was selected for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2025 Genesis Facade Commission.
