The Paradise Valley Police Department hosted law enforcement public information officers from across the country last week for the FBI-LEEDA Master Public Information Officer course, according to the Paradise Valley Town Manager's Sept. 4 weekly update.
The advanced training focuses on helping agencies communicate effectively before, during and after critical incidents. Topics include crisis management planning, internal and external communication strategies, and working with the media.
The course also gave Paradise Valley police personnel an opportunity to participate in professional development while bringing experienced public information officers together to share ideas, lessons learned and communication practices from agencies nationwide, according to the update.
Effective communication is especially important during emergencies, when residents rely on law enforcement for timely and accurate information, Town Manager Andrew Ching wrote in his update. These training sessions strengthen communication skills and help build public trust between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
