Cosanti announces Tile-Making Experiences in Paradise Valley

Posted

Cosanti in Paradise Valley, 6433 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, has announced four spring Tile-Making Experiences. During each hands-on class, guests will be guided through the tile-making and design process developed by The Cosanti Foundation and used every day by the artisans of Cosanti Originals.

Each Tile-Making Experience begins at 10 a.m. with an introductory tour of Cosanti, which will highlight its history and theory. At 11 a.m. the process of forming a clay slab begins, using canvas and a roller. Then the slab will be sized, measured and cut into tile pieces.

The highlight of the day takes place at noon. Instructors will show guests the main tools and techniques used to imprint a design into the clay tile, just as Cosanti artisans do. The instructors will elaborate on their unique styles of artwork with the Cosanti family of design as well as individual expression.

At 1 p.m., the experience concludes with a brief photo session of participants and their tiles. After the class, the clay tiles will be fired and lightly glazed. Participants’ tiles will be shipped directly to them.

Four sessions are offered throughout the spring: Saturday, March 2; Saturday, April 6; Saturday, May 4; and Saturday, June 8.

Cost per session is $125 per person. To register or to inquire about logistics, email workshop@arcosanti.org.
