Brophy Preparatory records 13 National Merit semifinalists

In all, 28 Brophy College Preparatory seniors received some form of National Merit recognition in the 2023 NMSQT competition, once again placing the Jesuit high school in the top echelon of Arizona academic powerhouses.

According to a press release, 13 Brophy College Preparatory seniors were named National Merit semifinalists. These academically accomplished young men now have the opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship program competition, the release continued.

The national pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors, includes those students who scored highest on the PSAT/NMSQT in each state.

Fifteen Brophy seniors were named National Merit Commended Students. Commended students are recognized for their academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT last year.

In the release, Principal Bob Ryan noted that, as a Jesuit school, educating young men to be intellectually competent is a mandate Brophy has delivered on for decades.

“It takes intellectual competence to truly form leaders and men for others,” stated Ryan. “It’s not just a matter of doing well in order to get into great colleges. I’m proud of these young men who shine in many areas of school and student life.”

Brophy College Preparatory is a Jesuit, Catholic school founded in 1928 that educates young men to be intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving and committed to doing justice.
