Arizona Women’s Board raises $550K for kidney health programs
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
The Arizona Women’s Board luncheon event raised net proceeds of more than $550,000 for the benefit of Arizonans suffering from kidney disease.
The Authors Luncheon 2019, held on Nov. 16 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa, was chaired by Susan Doria and hosted seven prominent national authors.
Generous participation from the community created a banner year for the 40th annual event with record attendance and the highest grossing revenue in Arizona Women’s Board history, according to a press release.
As part of the annual fundraising effort, Arizona Women’s Board recently granted event proceeds to six local organizations whose missions support kidney patients, as well as the prevention, awareness, education and research of kidney disease.
The six grantees include: National Kidney Foundation of Arizona, Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation, TGen Foundation, Transplant Community Alliance, St. Joseph’s Foundation, and Valleywise Health Foundation (formerly Maricopa Health Foundation).
The funds granted to these organizations will be used to promote a diverse number of kidney health related programs and patient services.
Funds awarded to National Kidney Foundation of Arizona will continue to support the Path to Wellness program, which assists with the prevention and detection of kidney disease in outlying communities and under-served populations by screening and diagnosing patients and connecting them with needed services.
Phoenix Children’s Hospital will provide pediatric blood pressure cuffs for at home screening of pediatric kidney patients.
TGen will be using grant dollars to further research and clinical studies in the fight against kidney cancer.
Transplant Community Alliance will assist with patient services and living expenses for patients who experience loss of income after their kidney transplant.
Funds awarded to St. Joseph’s will provide full-service care for living kidney donors and kidney transplant recipients through care of a Living Donor Nurse
Coordinator.
Valleywise Health Foundation will continue to provide assistance to kidney patients by adding a second Food Pharmacy location in the Valley to help with educational meal planning and food assistance for kidney disease at-risk patients.
Save the date for the Authors Luncheon 2020 to be held Nov. 7 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa.
