Visit Mesa joins the U.S. Travel Association in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week May 19-25 by showcasing how the visitor industry is a vital economic engine for Mesa, generating tax revenue and providing jobs that benefit residents.

Visit Mesa kicked off this year’s festivities on May 8 at its Visitor Industry Summit, “The Decade Ahead: Limitless Opportunities.” Visit Mesa highlighted its achievements from the 2023-24 fiscal year, shared updates on the organization’s 10-year master plan and three-year strategic plan, and recognized the following Visitor Industry Award recipients:

  • Mesa Visitor Industry Visionary Award, presented to Carl Grupp, Visit Mesa Board chair.
  • Mike Whalen Spirit of Community Service Award, presented to Ron Williams, Visit Mesa Board treasurer.
  • Mesa Visitor Industry Champion Award, presented to the Arizona Museum of Natural History and accepted by Museum Director Simon Tipene Adlam.

Visit Mesa President and CEO Marc Garcia’s remarks focused on the importance of the visitor industry and the contributions it makes to the community’s growth both now and in the future. Garcia reported that in 2023, Visit Mesa secured more than 120,000 lodging room nights that had a direct economic impact of $65.5 million into Mesa’s local economy, according to a release.

“We look forward to building on this momentum to ensure everyone in our community benefits from a strong visitor industry that powers Mesa’s economy, connects our people and creates quality job opportunities. By fostering collaboration among public, private and civic sectors, we aim to create a thriving Mesa that offers unparalleled experiences for visitors while providing an exceptional quality of life for all who call it home,” Garcia said in the release.

Mesa Mayor John Giles gave a video presentation with an official proclamation declaring the city’s participation in National Travel and Tourism Week. Giles also highlighted his recent 36-hour city tour including some of his favorite spots in Mesa.

Taking inspiration from Mayor Giles and in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, Visit Mesa is giving away a weekend getaway in Mesa. Enter at www.visitmesa.com/36-hours and check out Mayor Giles’ 36-hour tour and learn more about Mesa’s visitor industry.
