Tempe business plans hangar at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa

Posted

The look and landscaping for a proposed 21,211-square-foot aircraft hangar at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa are to discussed at a July meeting of the Mesa Design Review Board.

An application by Kristen Luciano of Synectic Design is to be discussed at the board’s July 15 meeting that begins at 4:30 p.m. in the lower council chambers, 57 E. First St.

The city of Mesa is the property owner of the 2.5 acres approximately 1,300 feet west of North Higley Road on the north side of East Falcon Drive.

The pre-engineered metal building airplane hangar for Van Horn Aviation is to include 17,593 square feet for helicopter storage, 1,633 square feet of office area for staff and two restrooms, and a 1,985-square-foot mezzanine area, according to a written project narrative from Synectic Design Inc.

Van Horn Aviation is a privately held small business based in Tempe with corporate offices and production facilities, it states.

“The company focuses on the design, testing, certification and manufacturing of composite rotor blades for a range of helicopter models,” according to the narrative.

The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
