Arizona Department of Transportation’s $77 million project to build State Route 24 as a four-lane divided roadway between Ellsworth Road in Mesa and Ironwood Drive in Pinal County is nearing completion.
Work started in November 2020 and, weather permitting, the entire 5-mile-long project is scheduled to open by mid-August, according to a release.
Lane striping was completed recently, marking the last planned weekend closure within the SR24 project’s boundaries. Additional activities will continue for the next few months to complete minor work items, some of which may require lane restrictions.
In addition to constructing two paved lanes in each direction separated by a graded median, the project includes signalized at-grade intersections at Ironwood Drive and Meridian, Signal Butte, Williams Field and Ellsworth roads. Bridges were built over Ellsworth and Mountain roads and crews constructed a regional drainage channel along the north side of the roadway.
