The Arizona Financial Credit Union gave the nonprofit Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank, based in Chandler, a $10,000 grant to help Mesa School District students combat food insecurity, according to a press release.

AFCU awarded the grant trough its Local Causes Visa debit card giveback program. The grant will bolster Matthew’s Crossing’s Meals to Grow program by targeting Mesa School District students with food insecurity and providing them with nutrition when they cannot access school-provided meals.

The nonprofit will provide weekend backpacks for students that will contain items such as breakfasts, lunches, dinners, vegetables, snacks and more.

“This grant will enable us to provide even more meals to students in need, helping to alleviate hunger and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed,” said Jennifer Francisco, Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank development director.

Mesa Schools served by Matthew’s Crossing’s Meals to Grow program include Dobson High School, Skyline High School, Mesa High School, Red Mountain High School, Mountain View High School and many more.
