Mesa Zoning Board approves residential component of Medina Station development

Posted

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board recently voted to approve a request for a site plan review for the residential component of the planned Medina Station development.

The board on April 9 voted 5-0 to approve the request made by applicant Reese Anderson of Pew & Lake PLC, on behalf of site owner Bela Flor Holdings LLC. Absent were board members Genessee Montes and Chase Farnsworth.

The applicant is requesting a site plan review for a 353-unit multiple residence development, according to board documents. The site is about 775 feet east of the southeast corner of South Signal Butte Road and East Southern Avenue.

Medina Station is a planned mixed-used development that aims to integrate commercial, dining and residential components to serve as a regional destination for east Mesa. The site plan review, if approved, would allow for the residential component to be built following a design review board meeting that would be scheduled for a later date. The residential development would include 353 units, one four-story building, six two-story carriage buildings, two interior courtyards and 530 parking spaces.

According to board documents, nearby property owners were notified, and the applicant received one response expressing concern, but staff had not received any communication or feedback.

The seven-member Planning and Zoning Board conducts hearings and makes recommendations to the city council on requests for changes in zoning and on required site plans. It also considers and recommends changes in the city’s long-range plans and in the municipal code concerning planning and zoning matters. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years.
