BABY FOUND
Mesa woman finds newborn at doorstep
Posted
INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A Mesa woman living in the area of 5600 East McKellips Road found a baby at her doorstep Friday morning, police said.
The Mesa Police Department received a call about 11:20 a.m. and arrived at the home to find a newborn wrapped in a blanket.
Police said the baby did not appear to be more than a day old.
Mesa fire and medical personnel were called, and the baby was taken to a hospital and appeared to be in good condition, police said.
"The resident stated that she heard her doorbell ring. When she made it to the front door she thought a package had maybe been delivered to her door. She opened the door and found the baby on the ground," police stated in a release.
Anyone with information about this incident should contact the Mesa Police Department.
Police also advise: "If anyone is in a similar situation please use one of the many safe haven spots set up around the city. You can drop a baby off no questions asked to any on-duty staff member at a fire station, hospital and EMT. There are also welfare and adoption agencies that participate in the program."
