Starbucks workers at the Val Vista and Southern location in Mesa recently voted to join Starbucks Workers United.
They join a growing nationwide movement of more than 11,000 baristas working to win workplace protections on core issues such as living wages, respect, racial and gender equity, and fair scheduling and staffing, according to a release.
The Val Vista and Southern location will join more than 590 locations in 45 states and the District of Columbia who have won their union, it states.
“It is such a relief to have won our election after what feels like a long fight for this union. I am excited to finally have a seat at the table to advocate for better wages, consistent scheduling, and protections for all partners. We are taking this step towards a more just and supportive workplace for all partners. My hope is that we are able to negotiate a strong contract and inspire more stores to stand up and join us,” Shania Felix, a barista of four years, said in the release.
