The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board voted to recommend the city council approve a site plan review and site plan modification to allow for the construction of a Sun Devil Auto near East Southern Avenue and South Signal Butte Road at their recent meeting.
The vote passed 4-0 with board members Jeff Pitcher, Genessee Montes and Chase Farnsworth absent on Oct. 22. The site plan modification will allow for a single-story, 7,689-square-foot automotive/vehicle and repair facility, according to board documents.
The request was made by George Pasquel III on behalf of site owner WS Holdings I, LLC.
The project site is zoned limited commercial. The Sun Devil Auto would be a minor automobile/vehicle service use, which is permitted by limited commercial zoning. The site plan would consist of bay doors on the east elevation, shared access from Signal Butte Road and Southern Avenue and 26 parking spaces. Staff notified nearby property owners but did not receive any feedback on the project.
The seven-member Planning and Zoning Board conducts hearings and make recommendations to the City Council on requests for changes in zoning and on required site plans. It also considers and recommends changes in the city’s long-range plans and in the municipal code concerning planning and zoning matters. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years.
