Mesa homicide suspect found dead following Tuesday night killing, victim identified

Posted

A 19-year-old suspect in the shooting death of a man has died by an apparent suicide, Mesa police said.

Diego Borquez was found dead inside an apartment after the slaying of another man who was shot Tuesday night at the Colores del Sol Apartments, 510 E. McKellips, police said.

Just before 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11, Mesa officers responded to the apartment complex in response to a call about shots being fired. They found Ramon Salazar, 34, who had been shot.

Salazar was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a Mesa Police Department release.

Officers spoke to witnesses and gathered information to determine Borquez was a suspect in the killing.

A search warrant was obtained, and officers entered the apartment to find the 19-year-old.

Police said the suspect and victim knew each other.
