Mesa Council votes to rezone area to pave way for housing complex

Posted

The Mesa City Council approved an ordinance 7-0 Nov. 18 that will pave the way for a multifamily development.

The project is to be constructed within the 100 block of North 56th Street and the 100 block of North 57th Street.

According to council documents, this development, called The Five Six, will be a 32-unit, three-story development with 68 parking spaces. The vote introduced the ordinance, which will rezone the area from limited commercial to multiple residence-4 with a planned area development overlay and site plan review, during the Nov. 18 meeting and set Dec. 2 as the date for the council to hold a public hearing on it.

Council documents say the development fits with the general plan character area designation and goals of having a secure and safe community, diverse housing types and a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented urban environment within walking distance of transit stops.

The Dec. 2 Mesa Council meeting goes down at 5:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 57 E. 1st Street.
